Do you think that it's possible that the military will ever create drop-ship's like that of science fiction?

Also what would we need in order to create one similar to the ISA drop-ships in killzone 3 or the pelican's in halo as well as things seen in science fiction literature and movies and video games. i think that it would be cool if our military developed propulsion technology that allowed cars as well as troop transports to hover and fly in the air like what we see in halo, killzone and other entertainment these day's and whenever I think of a helicopter or see one that's the image that pops in my head because in a way a helicopter is similar in nature to a drop-ship. but is it possible that the military could ever build one and what do you think it would look like or what would it take in order to build one that works and functions for the military as well as does the military already have a drop-ship type plan in the works for a future military vehicle or is it just in the realms of science fiction right now as with everything else?
