Is it true that during the Gulf Oil Spill US troops where patrolling areas that were "off limits" to the press?

I heard this was the case in the Brown Pelican nesting area. For some reason US troops were 'protecting' the area from press photography. This is highly unusual but not impossible. I was wondering if anybody else heard this. I haven't been able to find an account of it on the Internet.
